While open source software has become the backbone of our digital infrastructure, these essential components do not receive adequate support and investment. Open source code is embedded in almost all products and services, enabling economic growth and ensuring the resilience of our society and government.
The market failure in our shared digital infrastructure jeopardizes the stability of the entire ecosystem and with it our competitiveness, innovation, and security. Targeted and long-term public funding is necessary to strengthen this foundation. This prevents digital infrastructure from falling into the hands of a few powerful players, resulting in a one-sided, destabilizing dependencies.
Technologies
Our focus is on improving and maintaining foundational digital technologies that enable the creation of software. Examples include libraries for programming languages, package managers, open implementations of communication protocols, developer tools, and digital encryption technologies.
